Aino Suni

Aino Suni (1985) is a director and screenwriter from Helsinki. She graduated with a Masters in screenwriting from University of Salford, UK in 2014. Her interest is in bold visual storytelling and approaching topics that are in danger of being ignored. 

Suni’s debut long film, the psychological thriller Heartbeast, premiered at the Gothenburg Film Festival main category in 2022. It was received with rave reviews and won two Jussi awards. The film, in French, was distributed in the French and German theatres in addition to Finland. 

Suni also directs documentaries. Ei koskaan enää (Never again),  a story about rap artist Mercedes premiered at Love and Anarchy Film Festival in 2018 and was selected in the national category at Tampere Film Festival.  Her 2019 documentry series Pillupäiväkirjat (Pussy Diaries) frequently raises controversy and discussion. 

Suni’s latest directing work for TV are the second seasons of youth series for YLE, Savela and Swang. She also directs music videos and commercials. At the moment she is working on her second long fiction  film.
